Research Focus at QCRI

Alberto is a Scientist in QCRI’s Arabic Language Technologies group. He is interested in the development of technology for the analysis and exploitation of (multilingual) text.

Previous Experience

Prior to joining QCRI, Alberto worked at the Talp Research Center, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (Spain), where he was an ERCIM Alain Bensoussan fellow.

Alberto has been involved in various European and Spanish projects on natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine translation. He has co-authored 5 journal papers and over 25 conference papers in top venues. Alberto has also co-organised various editions of the PAN Evaluation Labs on Uncovering Plagiarism, Authorship, and Social Software Misuse at CLEF. In addition, he serves as a committee member in journals such as Knowledge-based Systems (Elsevier) and Language Resources and Evaluation (Springer), as well as international conferences such as ACM's SIGIR and EMNLP.

Alberto received a PhD and MS in Computer Science from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (Spain), and a MS and BS in Computer Science from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
