Yousef Khalidi Biography

Yousef Khalidi, Microsoft Azure

Dr. Khalidi is a seasoned technologist with a proven record of over 25 years’ experience shipping innovative software and hardware platforms, with experience that spans the spectrum from creating and shipping large “V1” products (Microsoft Azure, Sun Cluster); leading technology for established products (Solaris, Windows); creating, and incubating new technologies (Spring OS, Solaris MC, Windows Silos, high-speed networking); architecting hardware (MMU, networking, DC design) and software systems; creating new initiatives and technology direction (Sun N1 Utility Computing); managing large-sized organizations to individual contributor work managing by influence; to active customer, partner and academic engagements.

Currently, Dr. Khalidi is responsible for product management for Microsoft Azure Networking, which includes software defined networking, physical network design, and WAN connectivity for Microsoft’s cloud. Dr. Khalidi was a founding member of Microsoft Azure, which is one of the biggest public cloud platforms in the world.

Before joining Microsoft, Dr. Khalidi was a Distinguished Engineer at Sun Microsystems. He was Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect of Solaris, Chief Architect and Director of the Sun Cluster product line, Chief Architect of Sun’s N1 utility computing initiative, as well as a principal architect of Solaris MC and Spring operating systems.

Dr. Khalidi has published works in several areas, including operating systems, high availability, distributed systems, object-oriented software, high speed networking, memory management, and computer architecture. He holds 44 patents in these areas. Dr. Khalidi has a PhD and a Master of Science in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia.
